Childress to Albuquerque

08/28/2012 22:30

We ride today from Childress to ALbuquerque almost 706 Km or 441 miles; we stopped at Shamrock which is the first town of the route 66 in Texas. Saving some turtles in our way....

Shamrock is a nice small place that has preserved some of the old icons of the highway. A couple of gas stations and then when leaving the city you can see the abandoned garages beside the old 66.

From there we went to McLean, or what’s left of the city that pretty much disappear after the new highway 40  was built just 500 mts from the old 66. We went to the H 66 museum that was closed because was Sunday but they forgot to lock and we wen inn to take some pictures.

We then stopped at Tucumcari where the main street is the old 66 that has been preserved and old motels still are there; like the Blue Swallow Motel. We meet a Canadian riding from Toronto in a brief stop in a gas station.

After Amarillo we stopped at the Cadillac Ranch where ten Cadillac’s has been  buried in the ground as an art display

We are in Albuquerque, I'll top up some oil in the bike at the BMW dealer and tonite we'll be at teh Gran canyon . Cheers
